The Tree

Many hundreds of years ago there was a young traveler who decided to walk from one end of the world to the other. He packed up all that he needed including a small seed. He started in the east and headed west. He never reached an obstacle that he couldn’t overcome and pressed on day and night.

After years of walking he came to the midpoint of his journey. He set up his tent, found water and food, and began to relax. He rolled over in his sleep and has he did he awoke to a pinch in his leg. He shot up at once for it had hurt. It was the seed he had packed with him before he sent on his journey. He laughed at the fact that something so small could cause him such great pain.

He unzipped his tent and walked out. He knelt down and scooped some dirt with his hand. He dropped the seed in the hold and covered it back up. He took out his canteen to pour some water on the seed and soaked the ground around it. After this he went back to his tent and went back to sleep.

He awoke with the sunrise and stepped outside to stretch his aching body. After stretching he noticed the seed had already sprouted. It had grown out of the ground overnight. He was amazed at the sudden growth. He figured that the water was some sort of a magic water. He opened his canteen to pour some more water around the blossom, making sure it was fed for the day. He then packed his tent and set on his way west.

He left the tree on its own to grow, and continued to grow it did. It grew fast and large and became a massive tree within a short time. It grew and grew till it grazed the sky and grew some more.

A couple hundred years later some migrants came from the north searching for a new land. They came across the tree and were stunned. It was the largest of any creature they had ever found. They figured that there must be good water nearby and with that good food. It seemed like a good place to start a civilization.

They did settle down and began to live. It wasn’t long before they had found the tree’s water supply and began to drink of it themselves. They also began to grow strong and tall. They were stronger than any other men in the world.

Years later, another group of migrants came across the water supply to the tree. They began to drink of it and them to, became strong and tall and powerful like the first group.

Soon after, the first migrants found the second group. The first group became upset that another group had come in and stolen the land that they had found first. They tried to tell the second group to leave but they refused. Both groups started arguing back and forth until someone threw the first punch. They then, started fighting back and forth with neither side advancing in battle for they were equally strong.

Rumors began to spread about this magical water that turned people into powerful giants. More and more groups of people came to drink of this water, and as the migrants grew so did the battle. Everyone was fighting for their share of the water.

The battle progressed and has it did, the flow of blood started to flow more than the water. And as the people increased, the water decreased. Eventually there was no water left for the tree.

The tree, seeking nourishment, started to soak up the blood of the fallen warriors. There was more than enough blood for the tree to continue to grow.

As the tree took in more blood, it started to grow organs like those of a human. First the heart evolved, then the kidney and the liver, and so on. The tree grew a face and its branches turned to arms and roots turned to legs. The blood of the warriors gave the tree a life. Finally the tree grew eyes so it could see all that was going on.

After many decades of battle the tree became strong enough to stand, and stand it did.

As it uprooted itself the men in the battle felt the ground shake and became scared. They noticed the tree and its angry face. They started to run, but it was nouse. The tree reached down with its branches and killed them all. It killed all the humans in sight and nearby.

Thetree soaked up the blood quickly and became strongest creature to walk theearth.

A few nights later the tree grew hungry but there was nothing left to eat. All the blood was gone, and it was then the tree realized his grave mistake and began to wither.

On the tree’s last day of life the young traveler had come back. He saw the tree dying and ran to its side. He asked the tree what had happened and the tree told him the whole story. He told him about the first migrants and then the second migrants. He told the traveler about how the two groups started fighting and then more people came to drink the water and they got involved with the battle. And how there were so many people drinking the water that there wasn’t any water for him, so he had to drink the blood of the fallen troops. And how the tree became alive with that blood and grew into a man. And how after becoming a man he had reached down and killed all the men. The tree told of how he had soaked up all the blood and now had nothing left and was destined to die.

Upon hearing this, the old man started to cry. The tree asked why the traveler was crying and he said “I traveled and have seen the whole world, and the whole world is filled with that magical water.”
